Freckle Bear Farm Fall 08

No one is out there waiting to create our ideal life for us.....In the Fall of 2005 after a few life changing events, on a beautiful day I ventured into the country uncertain of where I was going or what my mission was. Land, an old barn, solitude and a fresh outlook on life were at the forefront of my mind. A few short months later we were the owners of a beautiful mini farm. Not certain of how this was to play into our future, I went forward blindly with the complete support of Vince, my husband, friend and unpaid laborer. All the pieces of life that have been important started to come together. I liken it to a wonderful crazy quilt that my Grandma Lila made for me some 30 years ago. And like this quilt all of the most important aspects of our lives have culminated in an end result that could have only happened with all the individual pieces....both good and bad.
The love of Lavender was instilled in me as a child by my Nana. Packages would arrive smelling of the herb, warm memories of the aroma in her home from childhood visits.... If I could grow a few plants at our home in the suburbs, as I had for years, why couldn't it be done on a much larger scale? We began a journey that has become our passion. With Vince's career in the city and retirement more then a decade away, I knew wine country or the south of France was not in the immediate future (a girl can dream!) so we decided to create our own little piece of heaven right here in Ohio. It has been an amazing few years of discovery as we have become "farmers".
The combination of being drawn to all things natural, a fascination with the healing properties of essential oils and aging skin led to the birth of Bear Naked Goods. I began making natural Olive Oil/Oatmeal soap. I felt the benefits almost immediately. I brought along a basket as a second thought to my first Farmers Market. There has been no looking back. My products slowly expand the more I learn and through listening to the needs of others. I love the quality of people that have entered my life through this venture.
It not only brings out the BEST people, but it also brings out the best IN people.
The farm slowly evolves into the vision we share. There is much to be done as we gear up for our first Lavender Festival in June of 09'.
Join us on the continued journey.
